Severe Weather

Be Prepared

Sometimes there is little or no warning before severe weather conditions or natural disasters occur. We recommend keeping a printed contact list for local agencies, including those identified on this page, and building a kit with basic supplies to store in your home, so you are prepared for emergencies, a loss of power, travel limitations, etc. When still able to access the internet, you should check individual agency webpages for the latest updates regarding service disruptions or emergency response details.

Emergency Kit

It is best to set aside a bag or box in a location where you will most easily be able to find and access your supplies in the event of an emergency. Check your kit annually to replenish anything that has been used or expired. The following items are some suggestions for putting together a basic kit:
  • Water (1 gal per person per day)
  • Food (Canned/MREs)
  • First Aid Kit & Supplies
  • Flashlight (Batteries)
  • Emergency Blanket (1 per person)
  • Poncho (1 per person)
  • Power bank or solar powered charger
  • Matches
  • Face Masks (for poor air quality)
  • Compass and/or Map
