Street Division
The Cornelius Street Division provides maintenance services to provide safe and dependable streets for the 2.3 square miles of the community, which includes approximately 38 miles of roads.
Street Sweeping
City streets are swept an average of once per month, and more often in the fall. Due to the variability in schedules and workload demands, we are unable to adhere to a fixed sweeping schedule or provide advance notice of the sweeper's presence in any given area.
Leaves
The city does not have a leaf pick-up program. However, we will be accepting leaves at the Public Works facility on four scheduled Saturdays this fall. In addition, Evergreen Disposal and Recycling provides yard debris containers which are picked-up twice monthly as part of your regular contracted garbage service at no additional charge. Contact Evergreen Disposal and Recycling at 503-357-3510 for pick-up requirements or additional questions.
Street Lights
To report a streetlight outage, contact Public Works at 503-357-3011. Have the location of the streetlight (nearest address is best) or the pole and map number (located on the metal tag at eye level on the pole) available when you call.
Pothole Repair
To report a pothole, call Public Works at 503-357-3011.
Signs
To report a sign in need of repair, call Public Works at 503-357-3011. Be prepared to give the type and location of the sign.
Traffic signals
All traffic signals in Cornelius are owned and operated by ODOT. However, to report a traffic signal that is not operating properly, call Public Works at 503-357-3011. Be prepared to name the intersection location and give the details of the malfunction.
Pavement Management
An engineering consulting firm, Geotechnical Resources, Inc. (GRI) created a pavement inventory and Pavement Condition Index (PCI) for all City streets. Using this Information, GRI analyzed long-term budget needs for pavement maintenance and provided a Pavement Management Implementation Plan. The City of Cornelius is proceeding to execute the plan, which includes major pavement restoration and minor paving surface treatments.
Critter Pick-Up
Washington County Animal Shelter is funded to pick up dead cats and dogs only. To report a dead animal other than a cat or dog, please call Public Works at 503-357-3011.
