- Check in returned books and other materials and sort them for shelving.
- Shelve books according to the dewy decimal system, alphabetically and by category.
- How do I get started?
-
Fill out an application and return it to the library or email it to library@corneliusor.gov.
- How old must I be to volunteer?
-
Volunteers between 14 and 17 years old may volunteer with guardian approval.
- May I volunteer on weekends or evenings?
-
Yes! We have volunteers here seven days a week as early as 8 am and as late as 8 pm.
- What will my time commitment be?
-
Most of our volunteer positions require a commitment of a two hour shift, once a week, for a minimum of six months.
- May I volunteer for just a couple of weeks?
-
Sorry, no. Because our positions require a complete application process that includes background check, orientation, and training, we are usually unable to accommodate short term volunteers.
- Will I have a consistent schedule?
-
Yes! We value your time and will create a regular schedule we both can rely on.
- How will I be trained?
-
On your first day, you will receive an orientation and meet your supervisor to schedule training for your particular position.
- May I use my employer's volunteer match program?
-
Yes, we welcome programs that match your volunteer hours! Our Friends of the Library partner is a 501(c)3 non-profit that accepts donations that fund many library programs like the Summer Reading Challenge. Just let us know how we can help with the process.
- Are Service Learning or School Community Service volunteers accepted?
-
Yes! Students needing to fulfill school community service and/or service-learning hours that commit to at least 3 months are welcome.
- May I use the Cornelius Library as a reference in future jobs I apply for?
-
Yes, if you have volunteered for at least 20 hours. It's helpful to let your supervisor know to expect a reference call.
- Can my community group or class do a one-time volunteer project?
-
Maybe. The library occasionally has opportunities for community groups. Contact us for more information.
- Are Court-Ordered Community Service volunteers accepted?
-
Sorry, no. Because our positions require a complete application process that includes background check, orientation, and training, we are usually unable to accommodate short term volunteers.
