[ARCHIVED] Vacant City Council Position

City Council Vacant Position

The City of Cornelius is seeking applicants to fill a vacant City Council position. The application period opens October 7 and closes October 22. If you are interested in serving your community and helping shape the future of Cornelius, we encourage you to apply. Applications will be available on this page, and available at City Hall, when the application period opens. For more information, please email cityrecorder@corneliusor.gov.

To be eligible for appointment to the Cornelius City Council, a candidate must be a qualified elector under Oregon law and have resided in the city for at least 12 months immediately preceding the appointment. Councilors may not be employed by the city while serving and must swear or affirm to faithfully perform the duties of the office and uphold the constitutions and laws of the United States and Oregon. Members of the Council exercise legislative, administrative, and quasi-judicial authority, including adopting ordinances, approving resolutions, and issuing orders. Councilors are expected to attend meetings regularly, participate in policy development, and collaborate with the Mayor, fellow Councilors, City Manager, and staff to support effective governance and the well-being of Cornelius residents.

City Councilors are expected to be available for Council meetings on the first Monday of each month and, if needed, the third Monday. While meetings typically begin in the evening, Councilors should be prepared for early evening gatherings, including dinner or pre-meeting briefings, and for meetings that may extend late depending on the agenda. Councilors should plan to commit the time necessary to fully participate in discussions, deliberations, and other Council responsibilities. In addition to Council meetings, Councilors should be prepared to dedicate additional time to review meeting materials, attend city events, and actively engage with the community, supporting initiatives and fostering connections with residents.
