Why Splitter Islands? Enhancing Safety at Roundabouts:

The installation of splitter islands is a key safety improvement that offers several benefits for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists:

  1. Reduces Speed: Splitter islands are raised concrete areas that physically separate entering and exiting traffic. This design element naturally guides vehicles to reduce their speed as they approach and enter the roundabout.
  2. Deters Wrong-Way Movements: By clearly delineating traffic flow, splitter islands help to prevent drivers from entering the roundabout in the wrong direction.
  3. Guides Traffic Flow: They provide clear visual cues that channelize traffic into the appropriate lanes and angles for entering and exiting the roundabout, reducing confusion and potential conflicts.
  4. Separates Traffic Streams: Splitter islands physically separate entering traffic from exiting traffic on the same leg of the roundabout, minimizing side-swipe or merging-related incidents.

We understand that this temporary closure may cause some inconvenience.  However, the long-term safety benefits provided by these splitter islands are substantial. We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we work to make our roadways safer for everyone.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, use the designated detour routes, and exercise extra caution when traveling in the vicinity of the construction.
