David Morris Returns to His Hometown of Cornelius as Fire Chief
The City of Cornelius is pleased to announce that David Morris has been selected as the new Fire Chief for the Cornelius Fire Department! After an extensive recruitment process, Morris, a seasoned fire service leader with deep local roots, will officially take the helm at the end of March.
Morris brings over 35 years of fire service experience to the department. He most recently served as the Chief of the Gaston Rural Fire Protection District and as a Liaison Officer to the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team, where he managed large-scale incidents like wildfires. Morris began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Forest Grove Fire Department and has remained active there as a rotational Duty Chief. He also served as Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Lake Oswego, retiring in 2021 after 22 years of service.
With the population of Cornelius growing by more than 18% since 2018 and fire call volumes rising, Morris’ extensive experience will be essential in addressing the increasing demands for fire and life safety services in the community.
“We are excited to welcome Dave Morris to the Cornelius Fire Department. His local ties and leadership experience make him the ideal person to lead the department into the future,” said Peter Brandom, City of Cornelius City Manager.
The City wishes to extend its gratitude to the current Chief, Forest Grove Fire and Rescue Chief Jim Geering, and his leadership team, for leading the Cornelius Fire Department over many years.
