Urban Renewal Agency Meeting

The URA Board discussed a Catalytic Grant Proposal aimed at seeking grant funds to assist a long-standing business in downtown Cornelius with facade improvements. Council was supportive of the idea and staff will now explore next steps.

Regular Session Highlights

  • The Cornelius Elementary Choir, led by Music Teacher Martin Garcia, delivered a wonderful performance featuring both singing and ukulele accompaniment. The recording will be available on TVCTV once uploaded—definitely worth watching for a dose of musical talent and charm.
  • Washington County Sheriff Caprice Massey and Undersheriff John Koch provided an update on law enforcement activities and public safety efforts. Chief Coley received well-deserved recognition for their experience and involvement as a team commander of the County’s Tactical Negotiations Team.
  • REDW Auditor Ryan Pasquarella presented findings from the City's annual audit.
  • Assistant City Manager Ellie Jones outlined the Capital Improvement Program upcoming infrastructure projects and funding considerations.
  • Communications & Engagement Manager Itzel Sayago provided an overview of the city’s community events for the calendar year.
  • Council appointed Lindsay Camila Alcala to the Youth Advisory Council.
  • The Mayor issued a proclamation recognizing the last week of March as Farmworkers Awareness Week.

Public Hearings & Council Actions

  • Supplemental Budget No. 2 – Council held a public hearing and reviewed proposed budget adjustments, presented by Ellie Jones, before unanimously approving Resolution No. 2025-07.
  • Laurel Garden Rezone – Community Development Senior Planner Tim Franz provided an overview of the proposed zoning changes, followed by the unanimous approval of Ordinance No. 2025-01.
